Back before B5 came out on DVD there was a website/petition to not only release the show on DVD, but to do so in the widescreen format as it was originally shot.
The website/petition succeeded, but Warner Brothers failed. They and Executive Producer Douglas Netter failed to spend the needed money to properly convert the effects and composite shots, so many shots in each episode are a little fuzzy or blurry.
Now, it was great to have the show on DVD, and as it hasn't been shown much on American TV over the last decade it's a damned good thing that it is on DVD. Otherwise, most of us couldn't watch the show at all.
But moving forward Warner Brothers is going to have to pay to have the show properly converted to HD or the series will be largely relegated to history since no cable network is going to show the series in it's current visual condition. That would be a travesty as B5 is one of the greatest examples of Science Fiction ever on TV.

Could WB re-market B5 with upgraded special effects? Could they get a cable channel to pick it up and broadcast it almost like a new series?
The show certainly holds up dramatically. The plots, direction, and acting are still fresh today. Only the visual quality falls short (and even the original effects would hold up ok if upscaled correctly).
The writing was so far ahead of it's time that the show holds up amazingly well when compared to current movies and TV shows.

It would be great to be able to watch this show in HD quality. It's one show that definitely deserves it. And to see it on TV would be awesome!
